Mitsuo Fuchida, he was the one that led the squadron of 860 planes that attacked pearl harbor on Dec 7 1941, a day that will live in emphamy .
American bomber, Jacob DeShazer was eager to strike back in the defence of his country. And the following April the 18th he flew his b25 bomber, called "the bat out of hell" on a dangerous raid over Japan. After dropping his bombs on Nagoya, DeShazer lost his way in heavy fog and ejected as his plane ran out of fuel and crashed. He was taken as prisoner, he was tortured by the Japanese and he was threatened with imminent death.
For almost two years, DeShazer suffered hunger, cold, dysentery and torture. In May of 1944 he was actually given a Bible as a prisoner, he was told and I quote "You can keep it for three weeks". DeShazer grabbed the bible, he clutched it to his chest and he started reading in Genesis. scarcely sleeping, he read the bible through several times, memorizing key passages. On June The 8th after reading Romans 10:9, Jacob prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his personal savior. immediately Matthew chapter five and verse 44 became a critical text for DeShazer as he determined to treat his Japanese guards differently, his hostility towards them began to evaporate. Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
His hostility and hate as he read and re- read this scripture strangely, supernaturally began to evaporate. Every morning he sought to greet his captors cordially, he prayed for them, and sought to witness to them at every opportunity regarding his new found faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He even began to see that their attitude towards him began to change, they often sought oppertunites to come and visit with him and hear more about what the Lord Jesus Christ meant to his life. Soon ,they began slipping him in food and medication as was needed. After the war, DeShazer returned to Japan as a missionary representing the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ to the Japanese people. Copies of his testimony in written form were disseminated all over Japan, the article was in entitled "I was a prisoner of the Japanese". The country was flooded with the pamphlet, thousands wanted to see the man who could love and forgive his enemies. DeShazer settled down and established a church in the very city in which he was a prisoner, Nugoya, the city that he had even sought to bomb.
One man in particular, deeply affected by DeShazer testamony, was led to Christ by a missionary, by the name of Glen Wagnor of the pocket testament league. Shortly afterwards the man paid a visit to Jacob DeShazer at his home and two became dear friends and brothers, it was Mitsuo Fuchida, who had led the pearl attack. As DeShazer served as a missionary in Japan, Fuchida became a powerful Evangelist for the Lord Jesus Christ, preaching through out Japan and around the world the forgiveness that was found in Jesus Christ.
Just an amazing TRUE story about the willingness of forgiveness and the love in Christ that shows through our lives.
